A Brief History of First Baptist Church Brazoria, Texas

First Baptist Church of Brazoria has grown from 19 resident members recorded in August, 1937 with a budget of $142.86 to 1,250 resident church members and a current budget of $851,882. Average Sunday School attendance for the year 2006 was 353 with an enrollment of 993. Pastors who have served First Baptist Church: H. B. Ramsey 1937-1940, Rutledge 1941-1945, Marce L. Perdue 1945-1950, Herman Coe 1950-1971, James W. Howard 1971-1981, J. P. Charles C. Cochran 1982-1985, Weldon E. Doherty 1986-1992, Robin B. Butler 1993-2000, and James Doyle 2001-2006. The first building of the present church plant was constructed in 1979. It consists of an auditorium, fellowship hall, classroom space, and offices. Then, in 1992 a Family Activity Center was built, housing a gym, kitchen, nursery, and classrooms. In August of 2007, the church began using our new building which provides additional education space and a worship facility for the student ministry.

God has given a purpose to First Baptist Church of Brazoria: "to glorify God by enabling believers to become fully committed disciples and equipping them to impact the world with the redeeming love of Jesus Christ". But this purpose cannot be accomplished in our own strength. Our only hope is in the sufficiency and strength that comes from the outpouring of God's Spirit upon us.
